Methods Used to Search the Web for Botanical Ingredients Known or Suspected to Contain Aristolochic Acid

We searched the web for dietary supplements which listed as an ingredient, any of the plant species that FDA identified as botanicals known or suspected to contain aristolochic acid or as botanicals which may be adulterated with aristolochic acid (link FDA site). FDA imposed an import alert in 2000 and 2001 to detain these botanical ingredients. We included in our work any product for sale on any web site with a listing of ingredients that included any of the botanicals in the FDA alert.
